I'm not not running Grandma's Marathon...
Hey hey! Since I started at CureSearch, I've run a handful of half marathons, countless 5Ks, completed 2 triathlons. Although I've helped thousands of others raise funds and cross endurance finish lines with CureSearch, this is the first time I've actually done my own endurance fundraiser. I work and play in the world of endurance, and I need to keep them separate at times for my own sanity : )
What's different this year? COVID-19! Despite the chaos around us, 43 children are still being diagnosed with cancer each day. As scared as I am for my own at-risk loved ones, I can't imagine learning that my child was facing cancer (and therefore immunocompromised) right now. That's why I'm leaning in hard and doing my part to raise funds for lifesaving children's cancer research.
My marathon looks a little different, as Grandma's races have gone virtual this year. The last time I tackled a full marathon I was ten years younger and both knees had all the parts they came with, so it's not a safe plan for me to run 26.2 solo in a single outing. Instead, I'll be running my miles starting on June 1. I'll finish mile 26.2 on June 20 (the original Grandma's date) with countless other Grandma's runners safely finishing together by ourselves.
I know times are tough. If you have enough right now and want to put some good vibes out there, please consider a donation. If you'd prefer to donate a small amount monthly, there is an option for that too. If you don't have enough right now, you're in my prayers!
We got this, friends.
PS: Want to not run with me? We have a few entries left in the full, half, and 5K. I'd love to finish together apart with you.
