Welcome to My CureSearch Challenge Page
Thanks for visiting my CureSearch Challenge page!
I am participating in a true challenge – raising funds for children’s cancer research. With your help, I can surpass my fundraising goal! Please, make a donation and make a difference in the lives of the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day.
The money I raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results.
Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive.
My personal connection
In November of 1992, my father was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. At the urging of a friend, he signed up for the Big Sur Marathon. In April of 1993, he ran the race to a sub-four-hour finish. Just six months post diagnosis (and six WEEKS after a bone marrow harvest), he was determined to not let cancer defeat him. My dad is certainly where I get a large portion of my stubbornness.
This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of him running Big Sur, and to honor that, I have taken on the challenge of running it as well. I don't anticipate i will finish as fast as he did, but i hope to finish strong, with my head held high, and him in my heart.
As strong as he was in that moment, he was equally as compassionate and giving in all the moments that followed. He eventually succumbed to cancer in July 1997. But before he died he decided to join a clinical trial, knowing that it likely wouldn't benefit him, but that his data would help others. He was the second adult in a trial that had shown promise in children with cancer.
I am taking on that spirit of giving, in the hopes that I can help others in much the same way he did. So when i saw that I could run the Big Sur International Marathon this year to honor him, AND that i could benefit childhood cancer research through CureSearch for Children's Cancer, I jumped at the chance.
Please help me in the fight against childhood cancer and support CureSearch for Children's Cancer in their efforts.
