Welcome to My CureSearch Challenge Page
I'm running to surprise my friend Eileen Moran on her wedding day and to support this wonderful cause. Eileen has run many full and 1/2 marathons around the country and many Grandmas as well. Once engaged, she decided she would be married on June 20th after running Grandma's 1/2. I planned to surprise her by flying to MN and running with her before Covid arrived. She still plans to be married after her virtual 1/2 and I still hope to surprise her somehow.
Eileen and I met and became friends in 1989 when we started nursing school in Boston. She moved back to Minneapolis after graduation and has been working as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ever since. The photo is from 1997 at the Grand Canyon. We met up that March for the best girl's trip ever. On a whim, we drove to the Grand Canyon one day. Once we saw it, we knew we had to hike it. The next day we did - all the way down and up in one day!
Covid has changed all of our lives dramatically. It hasn't changed the need for treatments for childhood cancer!
CureSearch for Children's Cancer is national non-profit working towards a cure for the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day! Their mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research in order to change the odds for the children most at risk.
Their work is so important because 12% of children diagnosed with cancer don't survive. And, of those who do survive, about 60% experience life long side effects – sometime even secondary cancer – as a result of their treatment
