10 years out of treatment survivor!
Growing up, I didn't know anything about cancer - I didn't know anyone that was personally affected by it and certainly didn't know any kids who had it. Since 2003, that has changed 100% when I was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma myself at 17 years old. I was blessed to have the world's best doctor, oncology nurses, surgeons and hospital staff care for me along with my own family who did every single thing they could to lessen the horrible of having cancer and all of it's side effects from treatment. I know and knew then even how truly blessed I was not only for the support and incredible team I had but for my life in general. I had a large stastic against me at diagnosis and even worse at my relapse time in 2007 but I made it - I defied the odds and along with God and that team, i'm here today. I'm not thankful that I had cancer, I wish cancer upon no one, especially children, but it has helped form me into the person I am proud of to be today. I am proud of to be able to not only be alive for this CureSearch walk with MY team from MY oncology clinic but to be able to physically participate in it after having my right lung removed in 2013 due to my Ewings Sarcoma relapse. I thank my parents, brothers, sister and medical team of Dr. Elliot & Dr. Leinwand (with many, many more) for my ability to breathe, be active and have a lifestyle that is not centered around what I CANNOT do any as it was for many years but, having a somewhat normal life in spite of the many years of fighting cancer. For me to be raising money to help fight this horrible disease is a MASSIVE victory is so, so many ways so please help our team today with a donation to fund research to end this disease.
Again, I am on my own clinic's team this for the CureSearch Walk - if you are able, please help us raise money to fund further research to eliminate childhood cancer. Send us a prayer for good weather and a safe walk, come out to support us if you can or send us a donation through this page if you'd like, any and all types of support are appreciated.
Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive.
The CureSearch Walk honors and celebrates children whose lives have been affected by children's cancer. The money I raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, they are the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
