Welcome Harlan's Mommy's Ultimate Hike Page
Thank you for visiting my Foothills Trail Ultimate Hike PAGE!
I am excited to participate in Ultimate Hike, a program of CureSearch for Children's Cancer! The funds I raise support their mission to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research!
I hike in honor of so many innocent children that have been unjustifiably affected by children's cancer, but my number one motivator is my son, Harlan "the Hero" John Sullins. At just 26 months old Harlan was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor (Ependymoma) after weeks of unexplainable vomiting, mood swings and eventually the inability to walk. For nearly two years Harlan fought through original diagnosis, relapse and everything in between. He endured multiple surgeries, 66 proton beam radiation treatments, four cycles of chemotherapy, and countless "pokes" and "boo-boos." In the seven months before Harlan's passing, he lost his ability to walk, play, express himself verbally and so much more of his independence. At the tender age of 3 years 46 weeks, Harlan gained his perfect "kind blue" wings and left his body that had been tortured for far too long. He was finally free to be the child he deserved to be.
I personally have never participated in something as physically demanding and endurance driven as this; a 28.3-mile hike. Aside from the physical plea, the emotional toll will be just as taxing for me. 2019 will mark five years that I have lived without my sweet boy. Five years that I haven't felt the warmth of his body, smelled his sweet scent, heard his precious voice. Harlan's journey on this earth may be "done," but I will continue to fight this battle for him, and for so many other innocent children that have and are fighting wars against beast they can not see. Childhood cancer IS A REAL THING! Harlan didn't survive, but I will be doing my part on April 27, 2019, so that your child can hopefully win their battle if ever faced with this horrendous disease.
I need your help to be successful! Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive. My Harlan became one of those sweet children that did not survive on October 25, 2014.
Every donation counts and ALL sizes are gratefully accepted!
Thank you for helping me to tell children's cancer to TAKE A HIKE! It's time to take Childhood away from Cancer! Please make a donation to my efforts, and spread the word on my behalf.
Together, we are fighting for the future every child deserves, and every parent dreams of.
Thank you so much!
