Welcome to My Ultimate Hike Page
Thanks for visiting my Ultimate Hike page!
I am participating in a true ultimate challenge - hiking to raise funds for children's cancer and with your help, I can surpass my fundraising goal! Please, make a donation and make a difference in the lives of the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day.
Last year my sister, Taylor Johnson, decided to participate in the CureSearch Ultimate Hike to help fight children's cancer. Our sister, Cortney, mom, Linda, and cousin, Lauren joined her. (I could not as it conflicted with work travel.) As many of you know, Taylor was diagnosed with Grade 4 glioblastoma in January 2016 where we were told that the cancer is terminal and the average life expectancy for a person with this form of brain cancer is 15 mths (5% live 5 years). But only a little over a year after her brain surgery, she signed up to complete this hike. Taylor was able to complete more than half of the hike and this was while she was still undergoing chemo - she truly is amazing. It has now been two years since her brain surgery and there is “no sign” of the cancer and her chance of survival has increased greatly!
I have decided to join the hike this year to help raise money for research so these children that are battling so bravely against cancer have a better chance of survival! Although my sister may no longer be a “child,” she is my Mom’s child and I have seen firsthand the effects caused by such a diagnosis. When I learned that 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day, and that one in eight of them don't survive and 60% suffer devastating, lifelong side effects, I have decided to try and participate in this hike every year I am able.
The CureSearch for Children's Cancer’s Ultimate Hike is 28.3 miles and in one life changing, lifesaving day, I will be hiking with my sister and my cousin for 8-16 hours (here’s to hoping it is on the low end of that range).
The money I raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, they are the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive. Please, support me as I help change the odds for those children most at risk.
Thank you for helping me tell children's cancer to take a hike!
