Welcome to My Ultimate Hike Page
Thanks for visiting my Ultimate Hike page!
I am participating in a true ultimate challenge - hiking 28.3 miles to raise funds for children's cancer and with your help, I can surpass my fundraising goal! Please, make a donation and make a difference in the lives of the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day.
The money I raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, they are the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
My personal connection to pediatric cancer is through my good friend, Jacki, and the local charity she and her husband started in memory of their son, Harlan. I met Jacki and her husband in 2015, less than a year after they'd lost their son to a rare malignant brain tumor, an Ependymoma. He was not even four years old.
I never had the chance to meet Harlan, but I'd like to tell you a little bit about him, through his mommy's eyes: Harlan was just 26 months old when he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. His mommy and daddy cared for him, as their sweet little boy fought for his life. The battle was almost two years long, including a relapse. While other little boys were out playing in the dirt, Harlan braved multiple surgeries, 66 proton beam radiation treatments, 4 cycles of chemotherapy, in addition to batteries of tests and procedures. He eventually lost his ability to walk, express himself, or have any of the independence that three-year-olds crave. At just 3 years and 46 weeks old, Harlan was freed of his pain and earned his wings. I cannot imagine how much his mommy and daddy miss him everyday.
Watching my friend grieve and fight for others has shown me what pediatric cancer can do, to children and to families. It has also shown me that we have the power to make a difference! In the past, I've volunteered as an event photographer for a CureSearch Hike. While volunteering is rewarding, this year, I decided to do more to help these kiddos fight the battle for their lives. I've committed to hiking 28.3 miles on the Foothills Trail in the Carolinas, alongside Jacki and others who have been affected by pediatric cancer. While 28 miles of hills and trails sounds intimidating, it is nothing compared to what 43 more children face each and every day.
Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive. Please, support me as I help change the odds for those children most at risk.
All donations make a difference! Every amount, no matter how larger or small, gets us closer to breakthrough research!
Thank you for helping me to tell children's cancer to TAKE A HIKE! No child should have to face this battle and no parent should lose a child to cancer. Please make a donation to my efforts, and spread the word on my behalf.
Together, we are fighting for the future every child deserves, and every parent dreams of.
Thank you so much!
