Welcome to My Ultimate Hike Page
Thanks for visiting my Ultimate Hike page. I was inspired to participate in this event by four people. I lost my mentor, friend and former law partner, Cravens Ravenel, in early December after a brief but brutal battle with melanoma. In late January, my dear friend Robert Adams died from cancer after being diagnosed during Thanksgiving week in November 2018. My fraternity brother, law school roommate and friend of nearly 30 years, Arthur Morehead, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in the summer of 2016. His death on February 8, 2019 leaves a huge void in the lives of all who knew him..
My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2015. Amazingly, he is cancer-free today. I will always be grateful to the doctors that diagnosed his disease in time to do something about it. Like many of you, I can name dozens of others whose stories do not have Dad's happy ending. Cancer is a cruel, devastating disease no matter the age or life experience of its victims, but it is particularly vicious when it strikes a child. Although none of the individuals who have inspired me to take on the Ultimate Hike was a child when they were faced with a cancer diagnosis, each of them has been important in the lives of many children.
I am participating in a serious physical challenge - hiking to raise funds for children's cancer. While the hike will be very difficult, it does not compare to the ordeals that my friends and family have endured while battling the disease. Please, make a donation and a difference in the lives of the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day.
The money I raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, it is the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
Five of the 43 children diagnosed every day do not survive. Please, support me as I help change the odds for those children most at risk.
Thank you for helping me work tell children's cancer to take a hike!
