Ultimate Hike - We need your support to tell childhood cancer to take a hike!
I am so excited to fundraise and train for the Ultimate Hike! The goal is to complete 25.5 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail in one very long day, rain or shine AND raise money for CureSearch for childhood cancer research with CureSearch.
Cancer has hit more people I love this year, and, while I can’t get in the ring and fight for them, I can do this. As I've learned more about children's cancer, I've realized that many children with cancer will not have the opportunity to experience the outdoors as I have, unless we make real progress towards more cures and safer treatments.
My personal stretch goal is to raise enough to support a new treatment for one child for a year. This adventure is going to be tough, and I can't do it alone. But together, we could make that goal and help change the life of a child.
Will you help me reach my fundraising goal? Every dollar helps.
Did you know? 43 children are diagnosed everyday with cancer. I can’t imagine the heartbreak of watching a child suffer or losing a child to pediatric cancer. Did you know there have only been 4 new cancer treatments approved for children in the last 20 years? Not acceptable. While the survival rate is high for some cancers, 3 of 5 survivors will suffer devastating long-term effects of treatment. Some childhood cancers still have only a 10% survival rate. None of this will change without more research and I’ve decided to take on this challenge to raise awareness as well as money.
The money we raise will support CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children's cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, they are the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
Thank you for helping me work tell children's cancer to take a hike! Hike On!
***I am inspired to hike in order to honor the memory of Jaime Petersen, who loved hard, who left us all far too early after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer, but never, ever failed to inspire us all to move forward and be our best selves. <3 #teamjaime #forward***
