About the Event

CureSearch -- a US-based non-profit foundation dedicated to finding cures for pediatric cancer is recruiting hikers of all abilities (from tenderfoot novices to seasoned veterans) to join with them at William B. Umstead State Park on June 1st to help kick childhood cancer out of your neighborhood. Hikers will have the option to select their hike length, choosing from 5, 6.25, 9.25, or 13.3 miles at registration.

Hikers registering as individuals will pay a $20.00 non-refundable registration fee (covering the cost of aid station snacks and incidental expenses) and will be asked to commit to raise $500 for pediatric cancer research. For family registrations, the registration fee applies to each hiker, but the family's fund-raising commitment is discounted to $500 for the first member, plus an additional $100 for each of the other members. (For example, a parent and two siblings would have a registration total of $60.00 and a fund-raising goal of $700.) Hiker will have until a month after the hike to meet their personal or family fundraising goal.

Hikers will receive access to CureSearch's fundraising and training portal, an industry-leading collection of resources that will help you reach your goals, and be offered incentives for reaching fundraising goals and support from local Ultimate Hike Alumni.

How the Fundraising Works

Once you are registered, CureSearch sets up a personal portal for each hiker, which becomes your communications link with your potential donors, where they can (1) read about your commitment to step up and step out for pediatric cancer research, (2) make a tax-deductible donation, and (3) offer a message of encouragement to you in your endeavor. Whenever a donation is made through your portal, CureSearch updates your data and sends a message notifying you of your progress towards your goal.

Your potential donors learn about your portal when you contact them with news of your venture, commonly done through e-mail, or any other means available to you.

Online registration will close at 11:59 PM on Thursday, May 30. Please make sure to register before the deadline.
